Brooklyn 99 was arguably one of the best shows in recent history. Very funny, lovable characters and a great run of seven seasons – let’s not so much talk about season 8, which really was a disaster. And while I don’t want to talk about why season 8 was so bad, I do want to offer some things that could have wrapped up better for a perfect ending of Brooklyn 99.
Brothers. Eventually
Jake’s father was a mess and even after he got back together with Jake’s mom, he still was not great. Boyle’s father was single and dated Gina’s mom for a while but that also was not forever. Why didn’t Boyle’s dad get together with Jake’s mom in the end? This would have made Jake and Boyle brothers, which would have been the perfect culmination of their friendship.
Captain of the Brooklyn 99
Terry worked so hard throughout the show to keep everything together. He should have passed the exam, get promoted and become the new captain of the 99 after Raymond Holt retired. Amy would have been a good choice, too, but she had another job and seeing Terry rise to that position would have been a welcome end that tells us the 99 will live on the way it has been.
Rosa, Rosa, Roooosa
Rosa Diaz leaves the force. Wouldn’t it have been a great ending, if she moves to another country, runs in to Doug Judy and the two of them finally hook up? Doug’s approaches on Rosa were a running gag throughout the seasons. She always flipped him off but if they would get together in the end, it would have been a much greater outcome than her getting back together with Pimento.
Vulture task force
Nobody liked the vulture. In the end he should have been assigned or “promoted” to lead a new task force on cyber crime, which means his job and the job of his subordinates would be desk duty – all day together in one room. And who is better at desk duty than Hitchcock and Scully? Can you imagine the horrors he would have to go through?
Brooklyn 99
As I said, I wasn’t a fan of the last season. It wasn’t funny at all. I want to give the Brooklyn 99 writers and show runners the benefit of the doubt and believe that the mess of this season was forced on them from above, but I don’t know. Still, it would have been great to see some loose ends being tied up as I described above.
